The seat is automatically held in place (when raised up) by a friction hinge bracket and supports up to 250 lbs. when properly installed. The friction hinge bracket is engineered to provide smooth consistent resistance when raising and lowering the seat to ensure safety and avoid slamming against the bathtub.
